YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR DIAGNOSIS

BPD Therapy That Sees the Whole Person, Not Just the Label

Living with Borderline Personality Disorder can feel like riding an emotional rollercoaster you never chose to get on. Your feelings are intense, your relationships complicated, and the version of yourself you want to be can feel painfully out of reach especially when the world has spent more time labeling you than actually understanding you.

BPD is one of the most misunderstood and stigmatized diagnoses in mental health. We believe that stigma has no place in therapy. Our clinicians are experienced in working with BPD and understand that the traits that have made your life difficult are also often signs of deep sensitivity, creativity, and capacity for connection. With the right support, real and lasting change is possible.

You're probably feeling

Overwhelmed by Your Own Emotions

Feelings hit you harder and faster than they seem to hit other people and they linger longer. You might go from fine to devastated in what feels like an instant, and you're exhausted by the intensity of your own inner world.

Terrified of Being Abandoned

Whether real or perceived, the fear that the people you love will leave you can be all-consuming. It shapes how you behave in relationships — sometimes pushing people away even when what you want most is for them to stay.

Unsure of Who You Actually Are

Your sense of self can feel unstable — shifting depending on who you're with, how the day is going, or whether a relationship feels secure. It's hard to make decisions or build a life when you're not sure what you actually want or believe.

How BPD Therapy Can Help

Borderline Personality Disorder is highly treatable and that’s something not enough people hear. With the right therapeutic approach, people with BPD experience significant reductions in emotional intensity, self-destructive behavior, relationship conflict, and suicidal ideation. Therapy doesn’t just manage symptoms; it can fundamentally change the way you relate to yourself and the people around you.

Our therapists are trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), the gold-standard, evidence-based treatment developed specifically for BPD as well as other approaches including Schema Therapy and mentalization-based techniques. We tailor treatment to your individual needs, history, and goals, and we approach every session with consistency, honesty, and genuine care.

What to Expect in BPD Therapy

Starting therapy with a BPD diagnosis can feel vulnerable especially if you’ve had difficult experiences with providers in the past. We want to be straightforward with you: this work is real, it takes commitment, and it is absolutely worth it.

DBT, in particular, involves both individual therapy sessions and skills training. In individual sessions, you’ll work with your therapist on the specific challenges, patterns, and goals that are most important to you. Skills training which may be offered in individual or group format focuses on four core areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. These are practical, learnable skills that help you respond to life’s inevitable difficulties without the fallout that has made things so hard.

Sessions are 50 minutes, available in-person at our New York and Massachusetts locations, and via telehealth. Consistency matters in BPD treatment, and we’ll work to find a schedule that supports your progress. Your therapist will be honest with you about what the work involves, celebrate your progress with you, and hold steady even during the difficult stretches — because showing up reliably is part of how healing happens.
