YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD DOES NOT HAVE TO FEEL LIKE A BATTLE

Compassionate, Specialized Therapy for Eating Disorders at Every Stage of Recovery

Eating disorders are not about food. They are about pain, control, identity, and survival. They develop for complex reasons, they look different from person to person, and they are among the most serious and most misunderstood mental health conditions there are. If you or someone you love is struggling, the most important thing to know is this: eating disorders are treatable, and recovery is genuinely possible.

Whether you are in the early stages of recognizing that something is wrong, somewhere in the middle of a long road you did not choose, or coming out the other side and working to build a sustainable relationship with your body and food, our compassionate, experienced therapists are here to meet you exactly where you are. There is no judgment here, no one-size-fits-all approach, and no expectation that recovery looks the same for everyone. Just skilled, steady support tailored to you.

Eating Disorder

You're probably feeling

Consumed by Thoughts

The mental space that food and body image take up can be exhausting in a way that is hard to put into words.

Ashamed and Afraid

Eating disorders thrive in secrecy. You may have become skilled at hiding what is happening, at keeping up appearances

Something to Manage

For many people with eating disorders, the body does not feel like a home. It feels like a problem to solve, a project to control, or something to punish.

How Therapy for Eating Disorders Can Help

Eating disorder treatment requires more than willpower, a meal plan, or a single conversation about self-esteem. Effective therapy addresses the psychological roots of the disorder, the behaviors and thought patterns that maintain it, and the deeper emotional experiences that the eating disorder has been serving. That kind of work takes time, skill, and a therapist you genuinely trust.

Our therapists are trained in evidence-based approaches for eating disorder treatment including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for adolescents and young adults. We take a weight-inclusive, non-diet approach and work in coordination with dietitians, physicians, and other providers when a higher level of medical or nutritional support is needed. Your care is coordinated, compassionate, and built around you.

What to Expect in Eating Disorder Therapy

Beginning therapy for an eating disorder can feel like one of the most vulnerable things you have ever done. We want to make that first step as safe and manageable as possible. Your initial sessions are focused on building trust, understanding your full history and current experience, and beginning to establish the therapeutic relationship that effective eating disorder treatment depends on. You will not be pushed, shamed, or given a rigid prescription for what recovery should look like.

From there, treatment is collaborative and individualized. For some people, the primary focus in early therapy is on stabilizing eating behaviors enough to create the physical and cognitive conditions for deeper psychological work. For others, particularly those who are medically stable, the work moves more quickly into exploring the emotional and relational roots of the disorder. Your therapist will be transparent with you about what they are seeing, what they recommend, and why, and every step of the treatment plan will be developed with your input and agreement.

We take a whole-person approach that honors the complexity of eating disorders and does not reduce recovery to achieving a particular weight or following a particular set of rules. Recovery is about freedom, and that is what we are working toward with you. Sessions are 50 minutes, available in person at our New York and Massachusetts locations and via telehealth, with flexible scheduling to accommodate different needs and life circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions About Eating Disorder Therapy

We know that reaching out about an eating disorder takes a particular kind of courage. Below are some of the questions we hear most often from people considering therapy, answered with the honesty and care this topic deserves.

No. You do not need to look a certain way, have been diagnosed with a specific disorder, or have reached a crisis point to seek support. Disordered eating exists on a spectrum and causes real harm at every point along it.

Ambivalence about recovery is completely normal and does not disqualify you from starting therapy. Many people come to us holding two things at once: a part of them that wants to get better, and a part of them that is not ready to let go of the eating disorder.

Yes, with your permission. We believe that eating disorder treatment is most effective when the therapeutic, medical, and nutritional components of care are aligned. We are experienced in collaborating with other providers and are happy to be part of a coordinated care team.

Yes, we accept a range of insurance plans. Please reach out directly so we can verify your specific coverage before your first appointment.
